When looking for hotels in San Juan, Puerto Rico on the beach, Escambron is a great place to start. Set in easy walking distance from Old San Juan, here you’ll be close to San Juan’s history and culture, with most of the benefits of staying in one of the hotels in old San Juan, but with the bonus of a beach.
One thing to note is that if you’re looking for hotels in old San Juan on the beach, there really aren’t any (as the oceanfront here is rocky) – but there are some lovely boutique hotels in old San Juan. Condado is also a great place to look for hotels on the beach in San Juan, Puerto Rico, thanks to its location in the centre of town – you’re only a few minutes drive or taxi away from old San Juan here.
One of the most iconic luxury hotels in San Juan, if you’re after a 5* treat or special escape then look no further than the Condado Vanderbuilt hotel.
This is one of the most romantic hotels in San Juan, with its contemporary, ocean-facing rooms and suites, sumptuous spa and 8 different fine-dining restaurants and bars. The hotel has plenty of history, too – opened in 1919, it boasts a rich history and has been welcoming sophisticated jet-setters ever since.
If you’re after the iconic San Juan experience, then you won’t want to miss the Vanderbuilt Condado beach hotel, San Juan. Very Miami beach.
If you’re looking for one of the Condado beach hotels San Juan has with plenty of nightlife and entertainment, then consider staying at La Concha.
Now part of the Marriott San Juan hotels family, La Concha features chic, minimalist design – think lots of white interiors and glass – with beautiful panoramic views of the ocean. The architecture is also iconic, and to make things more unique – La Concha is one of the few pet friendly hotels in San Juan.
The ‘hot happenings’ at La Concha are perfect for those looking for entertainment – the hotel regularly hosts pool beats parties, brunch & bubbles, and more. Or you can just take a stroll around Condado for plenty of bars and restaurants on your doorstep.
One of the best casino hotels in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is the Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino.
This beachfront hotel, San Juan is also located next to one of the nicest stretches of Condado beach. It’s also one of the more affordable hotels in San Juan that offers good comfort, but is more competitively priced than some of the fancier options on this strip. There’s on site dining in the restaurant or pool bar, or simply enjoy the restaurants around in Condado.
Choose from ocean front, ocean view rooms or pool access rooms – the rooms with 2 queen beds are a good option for families.
One of my favorite beachfront hotels in San Juan, the Tryst is located right on Condado beach and is great for families and couples alike – especially if you enjoy sampling different dining options around and would like to stay at one of the boutique hotels San Juan has to offer.
Room types at this vibrant boutique hotel include apartments, suites and regular rooms – they don’t include balconies but many of them have stunning ocean views. The beachfront bar and restaurant is perfect for sundowners and casual dining, and the hotel offers beach umbrellas and deckchairs for a perfect day on the beach here.

SAN JUAN BEACH RESORT CHOICES IN PLAYITA DEL CONDADO
Just to the west of the main Condado beach and towards the San Juan Old Town is Playita del Condado. This is a great spot to be in if you want calmer water (as the beach is protected by rocks) and want to be a little closer to the Old Town.
Another of the nice hotels in San Juan to experience is the Condado Plaza Hilton. A stay here won’t break the bank but you will get all of the amenities you’d expect from a Hilton: A great poolside area overlooking the city and beach, swim up bar, and tastefully designed modern rooms.
Here you get the best of both worlds when it comes to location – the hotel is peaceful, but you’re just a short walk from the attractions of Condado main beach and entertainment area, as well as being just a few minutes from San Juan old town.
On site, there’s a lagoon pool (there are 4 pools in total), fitness centre, 3 different restaurants and bars. This one is also a good option if you’re looking for the best family hotels in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
If you’ve been to San Juan before and want to stay somewhere different away from the main tourist hotspots (or if you just prefer to be away from the holiday making crowds) then Ocean Park is an area of San Juan that’s worth considering.
East of Condado, Ocean Park is Primarily a residential area and beach that’s more popular with locals, there are plenty of condos here (see below), but there’s also one of my favorite beach hotels in San Juan, Puerto Rico. One thing to be aware of is that there are fewer eating out and entertainment options here, so it’s great for a quiet break.
This laid-back beach hotel is one of the best boutique hotels in San Juan, PR and has a trendy, surf-vibe: No surprise as it’s the best destination for kite surfing in San Juan and offers board rentals and lessons if you feel inclined.
Accommodation is in either one of the beach front apartments or hotel rooms (there are Deluxe ocean facing, deluxe and standard rooms), each thoughtfully fitted out and designed with modern and homely touches. The beachfront restaurant serves casual but delicious food and is the perfect place for a sundowner.
For a different taste of San Juan, this is one of the nicest hotels in San Juan for a relaxed, welcoming vibe. The hotel also offers snorkeling and kayaking tours around San Juan.
If you want to stay in the Ocean Park area, you may want to consider staying in a condo. The area only has a few hotels, and limited access to restaurants near the beach. However, it’s a great spot to enjoy the beach away from the more crowded areas. It’s definitely more of a locals beach.
Further east along the coast again and away from Condado and Old San Juan, the Isla Verde area is a spot well worth considering if you’re looking for a laid back vibe or want to stay somewhere closer to the airport.
There is a mix of high end, luxurious accommodation and also value cheap hotels in San Juan here, and plenty of options for staying right on the beach. The beach is also one of the best in the San Juan area – there’s a long, sandy stretch that isn’t too busy, and the waters are relatively calm.
Access to Condado and the Old Town is via the expressway and it’s around a 30 minute drive or taxi into town from here.
The recently renovated and stylish Courtyard by Marriott is a great spot to base yourself in Isla Verde.
One of the best hotels in Puerto Rico, San Juan for enjoying time on the beach, there are a range of facilities and activities here to take advantage of, including snorkeling off the beach, a kids club, dining at one of the 4 restaurants & bars on site, or just enjoying time on the beach. Sirena bar and restaurant is a favorite and right on the beach.
Rooms are contemporary and also recently renovated – most come with balconies. If you want to make the most of being at a beachfront hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the ocean view ones will not disappoint.
The San Juan Water Beach Club is perfect for those interested in the best boutique hotels in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It has a trendy vibe and has been stylishly decorated, and is acclaimed for its “eco-zen” atmosphere.
With a rooftop bar and infinity pool, this is the place to come for a party in Isla Verde. Sundowners are accompanied by amazing sunsets and views over the beach. Rooms are minimalist and contemporary, and the grand ocean view ones are well worth the extra money. Set right on the beach, other facilities here include 2 restaurants, pool and a concierge who can arrange tours and excursions all over the islands.
This is one of the nicest hotels in San Juan if you’re after a great vibe and view, and regularly features among the top lgbt hotels in San Juan.

This is one of the San Juan beachfront hotels that has plenty to offer: There are lagoon pools with swim-up bar, 7 different bars and restaurants, and tastefully decorated guest rooms (one of the best things is that every room has a balcony). You can choose from city-view, pool-view or ocean-view. There’s also a fitness centre and yoga classes.
This is also a dog-friendly hotel, making it the perfect choice for if you’re traveling with your furry friend – but note you need to book a dedicated dog-friendly room.
Last but not least in this guide to the top 10 hotels in San Juan is the Fairmont Isla Verde. If you’re after an unforgettable vacation or wondering which the best honeymoon hotels, San Juan are, you’ll want to check this one out.
