When it comes to best snorkeling resorts Caribbean options you’re spoilt for choice and it can be hard to know just where to pick! This guide is here to help you do just that, and what’s more I’ve done all of the research for you based on my own experiences of the best islands for snorkeling in the Caribbean.

I’ll be covering my top 10 best snorkeling resorts based on a range of factors and experiences. Whether you’re interested in the best Caribbean snorkeling resorts for beginners, want to know which the best all inclusive snorkeling resorts are, or you want to know where to stay for the best snorkeling for kids in Caribbean, I’ve got you covered here!

The fact is, there are so many best snorkeling islands in the Caribbean, that the hardest part is choosing which island is right for you. I’ve chosen resorts that I personally love and are all well-kept in addition to having access to the best snorkeling sites in the Caribbean on their doorstep as well as other activities such as hiking and watersports nearby, too.

There are several questions to ask yourself when researching which is the best Caribbean island to snorkel: Are you looking for the best Caribbean snorkeling beaches on your doorstep, do you prefer to stay at all inclusive resorts with snorkeling, or have you already narrowed down your search to a specific island or area, and are looking for the best snorkeling in southern Caribbean, for example?

If you ask avid snorkelers where is the best resort for snorkeling in the Caribbean, you will hear over and over again either Cocoview in Roatan, Honduras or Off the Wall in Belize.  So, if an amazing house reef is the only consideration, pick one of those two – scroll down to read my full reviews below. You won’t be disappointed.

Let’s get started with my top Caribbean snorkeling resorts reviews.

In this post:

BEST SNORKELING RESORTS IN THE CARIBBEAN

Cocoview Resort, Roatan

Celebrated as the most returned-to dive resort in the world, and that’s saying something for one of the best caribbean snorkeling islands.

Located on the southern shore of Roatan, the thing that makes CocoView the best hotel for snorkeling in Roatan is its location right on the reef. Shore snorkeling is as easy as it gets here, in fact CocoView offers some of the best Caribbean snorkeling from shore. It’s the perfect introduction to Roatan island snorkeling for beginners and seasoned snorkelers alike.

CocoView is a renowned dive center as well as a resort, meaning you can also try scuba diving if you feel inclined, and their setup for snorkeling is professional. Another big advantage is that snorkelers are welcome on dive boats at all times, making it easy to visit any of the 10+ boat snorkel sites as well as the four shore snorkel sites that are directly accessible from the resort. In good water visibility conditions, up to 85% of the Prince Albert ship wreck’s 140m length is visible while snorkeling from the water surface.

Accommodation is on a full board basis at CocoView resort, and dive packages include 2 daily boat trips per day if you want to snorkel further from the shore. Or, you can remove the dive element from your package for a discount. The resort can also book your flights and transfers if you prefer to go for all inclusive snorkeling resorts packages.

Accommodation is available in Bungalows, Cabanas and Ocean Front rooms, with 29 guest rooms in total. That’s one of the things I love about CocoView – it’s a small, initimate resort and you’ll likely make good friends during your snorkeling vacation in Roatan if you stay here, especially as many people return year after year. Both the bungalows and cabanas are overwater, and all rooms have a balcony or patio area with hammock for blissful Caribbean views.

CocoView Roatan offers 4* level accommodation and is very reasonably priced.

If you’re looking for the best Caribbean island snorkeling, CocoView Roatan will definitely not disappoint!

Best Snorkeling Resorts in Roatan, Honduras

Located off the coast of Honduras in the Caribbean Sea, Roatan island gets rave reviews for its pristine beaches and incredible snorkeling, thanks to being located along the second largest reef in the world. Although this island is only 40 miles from north to south, it’s packed with things to do as well as amazing snorkeling. It’s also a lot safer to visit than mainland Honduras. The best time to visit Roatan for snorkeling is between February and August (dry season).

If you want to experience the best snorkeling in Roatan, you can’t beat a stay at Coco View Resort.

Off The Wall, Glover’s Reef, Belize

Located on Glover’s Reef Atoll, about 35 miles off the coast of Belize, Off the Wall is well away from the crowds snorkeling Belize city and feels like a different world. Off the Wall is located on its own private island, at the center of a Marine Reserve and World Heritage Site.

Off the Wall is a 5* resort and – I think – the best place to stay in Belize for snorkeling. When it comes to snorkeling vacations in Belize, it really doesn’t get much better than this thanks to being far away from the crowds and right in the centre of the Marine Reserve.

Off the Wall is an eco friendly snorkeling resort and part of the Tripadvisor Green Leaders program, and has incorporated sustainability measures including use of solar power, rainwater harvesting, composting toilets and many other things, making this a a best snorkeling resort in Belize choice if you’re also concerned about your footprint while traveling.

When it comes to the snorkeling, Off the Wall is considered to have some of the best snorkeling spots in the Caribbean thanks to its 700+ patch reefs, and there are daily guided snorkeling excursions by boat if you want to venture further afield (at a charge). You can also content yourself with walking straight in if you are looking for Belize snorkeling from beach options.

Accommodation is in beautiful thatched cabanas, with private verandas and stunning ocean views. Although this is not an all inclusive resort, rates are for full board and include all meals and most essentials for your stay.

Alternative Belize Snorkeling Resorts: Blackbird Caye Resort

If you’d like to be located closer to Belize city, another 5* resort we love is Blackbird Caye Resort, located on Turneffe Atoll. If you’re looking for Belize all inclusive resorts snorkeling packages, you’ll love the snorkeling packages on offer here, which include twice daily guided snorkeling trips around Soldier Caye and other incredible spots.

Best Snorkeling Resorts in Belize

The small central American country of Belize offers some of the best resort for snorkeling in the Caribbean options – this gem of a country is home to the Belize barrier reef, one of the best diving and snorkeling spots in the world, not to mention friendly locals, world-class Belize snorkeling resorts, and it’s also one of the safest countries in central America to visit.

The best time to visit to enjoy the best snorkeling in Belize is between November – May (dry season) for the best water visibility, although it is possible to visit year round.

Marriott Curacao

Located in Piscadera on the west coast of Curacao, the Marriott Curacao Resort puts you in prime position to enjoy the best snorkeling Curacao has. One of the best things about this location is you’re also just a stone’s throw from Willemstad and the historic Pietermaii district if you feel like some time out of the water.

One of the best snorkeling beaches in Curacao is right on your doorstep when you stay at the new Marriott Curacao resort – it’s easy to enter the water here from the man-made sand beach and the reef just in front of the hotel makes for great snorkeling. Other great snorkeling spots within easy reach include the Tugboat wreck which is easily accessible from the beach at Caracas Bay, just south of Willemstad, as well as many of the beaches up the west coast which are an easy drive away.

The Marriott is a beautiful new resort with two stunning pools, private beach and modern guest rooms with ocean views. There are plenty of dining options onsite or it’s an easy trip into town for alternative dining and entertainment options.

Alternative Curacao Snorkeling Resorts

Avila Beach Hotel Curacao

Avila beach hotel is another good Curacao resort with great snorkeling right off the beach. The current runs from one side of the breakwater along the beach to the otherside, making it perfect for a drift snorkel! Also close to the Tugboat snorkeling site and plenty of amenities.

Sunscape Resort Curacao

Sunscape Curacao offers snorkeling expeditions to Klein Curacao (Little Curacao) island which are perfect for a few hours of snorkeling and beautiful beaches, and they also arrange trips to other snorkeling spots around Curacao.

Bluebay Resort Curacao

The only resort in the Blue Bay area (Blauw Baai), this stretch of beach and coastline is home to one of the island’s best sandy beaches and snorkeling spots – Blue Bay beach. There are three different resorts here or plenty of villa rentals to choose from, too.

Best Snorkeling Resorts in Curacao

Although lesser known than Bonaire for its underwater life, Curacao makes my list of best Caribbean snorkeling destinations thanks to its clear waters and great reefs, combined with some of the best snorkeling beaches in Caribbean which make it easier to access the water than from Bonaire’s rocks. There are plenty of beautiful coves and small beaches dotted up the west coast of the Island, along with other snorkeling and dive sites dotted around the island.

The best time of year to enjoy snorkeling in Curacao is between September – November to avoid the trade winds, however the warm waters around Curacao mean that it’s fun to be in the water at most times of the year as long as it’s calm enough.

Sorobon Beach Resort, Bonaire

Located on the edge of Lac Bay on the south eastern coast of Bonaire, Sorobon Beach Resort provides easy access to some of the Bonaire snorkeling from shore that you won’t want to miss.

Although most of the best snorkeling on the island is on the west coast which is more sheltered from the prevailing trade winds, Lac Bay is an exception as it’s a sheltered inlet protected from the off-shore waves by a large reef. Staying here you’ll get the advantage of feeling the winds (great for cooling off in the heat), but the only thing to note is that Lac Bay snorkeling is better suited to stronger swimmers as it’s a bit of a swim out to the staghorn coral reef.

Sorobon Beach Resort is a chic hotel located on one of Bonaire’s best beaches – there are no rocks here, which you will have to contend with on most beaches here so make sure you bring water shoes. Sorobon Resort is a popular choice with windsurfers as well as those looking for a wellness retreat thanks to its great spa facilities.

Chalets are built directly on the beach and give off a trendy, relaxed beach vibe. Large verandas have plenty of space to lie in a hammock and soak up the salty sea breeze – something that Sorobon prides itself on having access to for its wellness and anti-aging benefits! There’s a great beach club and Bistro here too.

Alternative Bonaire Snorkeling Accommodations

Some of the best places to stay near snorkeling on Bonaire are located on the West side of the island and aren’t actually resorts, but vacation rental properties. Check out these amazing places to stay in Bonaire near some of the best snorkeling on the island at the best Airbnbs on Bonaire.

Click here for our top picks of were to stay in Bonaire.

Best Snorkeling Resorts in Bonaire

Another of the ‘ABC Islands’ along with Curacao and just off the coast of Venezuela, Bonaire is known around the world for being a premier dive location, and it doesn’t disappoint for snorkelers, either. Nearly all of Bonaire’s surrounding waters are protected as part of an underwater natural park, making them exceptional.

Despite Bonaire’s reefs having suffered storm damage from several tropical storms since the late 90’s, fortunately many of the best snorkeling spots in Bonaire still have plenty of beautiful corals and wildlife to see under the water, including Klein Bonaire (Little Bonaire island).

To enjoy the best snorkeling in Bonaire, visit between February and April.

Anse Chastanet Resort, St. Lucia

AnseChastanet Resort aerial shot/ Photo credit: Anse Chastanet Resort, used with permission

Anse Chastanet Resort is set on not one, but two, of the best St Lucia snorkeling beaches. The Anse Chastanet house reef starts just 10m off the beach, making it the ultimate in easy access snorkeling on St Lucia. The second beach also owned by the resort is Anse Mamin which also has great snorkeling from the shore.

Anse Chastenet resort is a lovely resort which is high end – although not as high end as others on the island – and is a great place for water sports enthusiasts, snorkelers and nature lovers alike. There’s also a beautiful spa and various package options available if you’re looking for an all inclusive St Lucia snorkeling vacation.

The resort is set into the hill, meaning great views all around, and the resort is designed to make maximum benefit of the breeze – rooms are largely open and have fans but no air conditioning, and it feels a little like staying in a fancy tree house.

In addition to the snorkeling and diving on offer, kayaking, and sailing are also available. Nearby snorkeling spots that I suggest visiting include the Pitons and Trou Diable (Devil’s Hole), which are accessible by boat from Anse Chastanet.

Alternative St Lucia Snorkeling Resorts

Jade Mountain Resort

If you’re looking for a more high end resort, then Jade Mountain Resort has the advantage of being in the same location, just higher up the mountain with higher end accommodation. So from here you can still enjoy the best snorkeling St Lucia has to offer. Coined St Lucia’s most romantic resort, the infinity pool views and resort are simply stunning.

Best Snorkeling Resorts in St Lucia

St Lucia might be more famous for its indulgent super-luxury resorts, but it’s also home to some great snorkeling spots on its leeward side (west coast) too. St Lucia is a high-end destination to visit, but you’ll be glad to enjoy the stunning beaches and snorkeling here without the crowds.

The best snorkeling in St Lucia is located around Anse Chastanet Resort (reviewed below) and the Pitons. Sugar Beach snorkeling is also well known where the Viceroy hotel has a house reef, but it’s not as good as Anse Chastenet.

The best time to visit St Lucia for snorkeling is between December and May, however, olive ridley turtles come to Anse Chastenet beach to lay their eggs in July and August, so you definitely won’t want to miss that if you can!

Gallows Point, St. John, USVI

Aerial view of Gallows Point St. John Resort

Located in Cruz Bay, Gallows Point is not one of the all inclusive resorts with snorkeling from the beach in this list, however it does offer a great place to stay that’s an easy drive to many of the best snorkeling spots on the north of the island: Trunk Bay, Jumbie Bay and Cinnamon Bay among many others.

Alternatively, to explore more of the best snorkeling in St John, USVI, you can organise snorkeling trips by boat through Gallows Point resort, or take part in some of the many other activities they have on offer here, including island hopping and hiking in the Virgin Islands national park which covers over half of St John, which is one of the reasons St John is one of my favorite islands to visit for snorkeling.

The resort itself offers stunning views of the bay, newly renovated oceanfront villas, an ocean front pool and fine dining. You’re just a short stroll into Cruz Bay meaning you have easy access to the town for alternative entertainment and eating out, too, or to take the ferry to St Thomas. One thing to note is that the beach here is rocky, so if having a white sand beach is important to you, you may prefer to consider St Thomas (below) or the vacation rental options below.

Alternatives Snorkeling Accommodation in St. John, VI

If you’re looking to be closer to the best beaches for snorkeling on st John, why not consider one of these villa rentals along north shore beaches?

Best Snorkeling Resorts in St John (USVI)

Another of the best Caribbean island for snorkeling contenders, St John, US Virgin Islands is arguably home to some of the best snorkeling beaches in Caribbean waters. If you’re wondering which US Virgin Island has the best snorkeling, then I suggest you take a look at St John.

The best snorkeling in St John can be found in the north west of the island, a short drive north from Cruz Bay. There are no resorts located in this part of the island so I recommend staying in Cruz bay, or you can look for vacation rentals closer to some of the best snorkeling spots in Caribbean (see below).

The best time to visit St John for snorkeling is between December and June, when hurricane season starts.

Secret Harbor Resort, St. Thomas, USVI

My favorite place to stay for the best snorkeling in St Thomas is at Secret Harbor Resort, which has some great snorkeling just off its beach (by the rocks on the left and right hand sides are the best spots).

The resort offers condo-style accommodations right on the sand beach from studios up to one, two and three bedroom condo suites. Larger condos include full kitchens – perfect if you prefer a self-catered break. The location is a short drive from the main city of Charlotte Amelie for shopping and entertainment, but far enough away from the hustle of duty-free shopping crowds. It’s also easy to take a day trip (or more) over to St John from here on the ferry.

For more best snorkeling off the beach spots around St Thomas, check out Coki beach point on the north coast opposite Thatch Cay, and the Cow and Calf rocks which are accessible by boat just straight off the coast from the Secret Harbour Resort beach.

Alternative Snorkeling Resorts in St. Thomas, VI

Sapphire Beach Resort Condos is another alternative resort option (also condo style) – it’s set on a slightly prettier beach and quieter location, but Secret Harbor has slightly better snorkeling.

Best Snorkeling Resorts in St Thomas (US VI)

The second US Virgin Island to be featured in this guide to the best snorkeling resorts in Caribbean waters, St Thomas is a busier island, with beautiful beaches and some of the best all inclusive Caribbean resorts for snorkeling.

Another of the best snorkeling destinations in the Caribbean, St Thomas also has the advantage of its own airport which makes it easier to get to for shorter Caribbean snorkeling vacations. As with St John, the snorkeling is best here in dry season between December – June.

The Caves Hotel, Negril, Jamaica

Although there are several places to snorkel Jamaica and have a great time, in my view Negril is the winner when it comes to Jamaica snorkeling thanks to the stunning beaches and cliffs, options to find less crowded spots, and the reef running close to shore to make for some of the best snorkeling in Jamaica – especially at Bloody Bay, just to the north of Negril.

The Caves Hotel is located just to the south of Negril beach in the West End, and is one of the best all inclusive resorts for snorkeling in Jamaica if you’re looking for luxury. It’s truly one of a kind.

Built into a cliff, here you have the effect of looking out over the sparkling ocean from your own private cave hideaway. There’s a spa, bar, restaurant, and just 12 bespoke and individually designed rooms all stacked above a set of unique underwater limestone cliff caves which make for incredible snorkeling on site.

The cliff dive instructor on site offers regular snorkeling expeditions, or you can head out on your own to swim through the cave networks and around, and if you’re lucky even meet a school of dolphins who like to swim in the waters around the cliffs. This is possibly the best snorkeling in the Caribbean all inclusive – you may not want to leave!

If you want to try beach snorkeling, you can head a few minutes to the north for snorkeling in Negril. When Negril gets busy, head to the next bay along – called Bloody Bay – to enjoy its stunning clear waters and possibly the best beach in Jamaica for snorkeling.

Alternative Best Resorts for Snorkeling in Negril

If the Caves are booked up or you prefer not to go for one of the all inclusive snorkeling vacation packages Jamaica has, then The Rockhouse is another great option to consider for a Jamaica snorkeling break. Also built into the Negril cliffs and with a stunning pool looking out to the ocean, this resort is every bit as special as The Caves, with a spa, stone-lined hideaway accommodations, and steps down to the turquoise Caribbean sea.

Best Snorkeling Resorts in Jamaica

Jamaica might not be the first island that springs to mind when talking about snorkeling vacations in the Caribbean, but it’s in fact home to around 450 square miles of coral reefs, many in very good condition. While some snorkeling needs to be accessed by boat, there are also plenty of best beach snorkeling in Caribbean options here as well.

If you’re looking for the best snorkeling all inclusive Caribbean has to offer, you’ll definitely find it here. Jamaica is home to some of the best snorkeling all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean as well as some of the best caribbean beaches for snorkeling, thanks to the Montego Bay Marine Park area and the stunning beaches and cliffs of Negril.

If you want to get the best of snorkeling in Jamaica, visit between December and May/June.

The Windsong Resort, Turks & Caicos

Located at Grace Bay on Providenciales (Provo for short), this resort is right on the beach and has the benefit of being located right on the reef! Providenciales’ best shallow underwater marine park is just 20 yards offshore from Windsong. It’s the only resort with direct access to this reef without needing to take a boat trip for your chance to see sea-turtles and stingrays.

The Windsong Resort is a 4* hotel with a spa, fitness center, complimentary non-motorized watersports and a range of studios, bungalows and rooms with 1-4 bedroom suites as well.

If you want great snorkeling on your doorstep in Turks and Caicos, the location doesn’t get much better than this!

Best Snorkeling Resorts in Turks & Caicos

Located in the North-Eastern Caribbean and within easy reach of the US & the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos is something of a hidden gem with some of the best Caribbean beaches for snorkeling on Providenciales, on the eastern end of the islands. Turks and Caicos is home to the third largest reef system in the world, so where better in the Caribbean for snorkeling?

The best snorkeling in Turks and Caicos is centred around Grace Bay, on the northern coast of Providenciales. Picture perfect white sands and transparent water await you here with some great reefs just off the shoreline. Head to Bright Reef and Smith’s Reef or head out on a boat trip to discover more of the Grace Bay reefs further out – or enjoy the house reef at the Windsong below!

The best time of year for snorkeling in Turks and Caicos is between December and May/June.

The Retreat At Rum Point, Grand Cayman

One of the few accomodation options at Rum Point, The Retreat offers simple condo style accommodation on the best stretch of beach in the area.

Part of the joy of staying at Rum Point is not only that you will have the best snorkeling Grand Cayman has to offer on your doorstep, but you’ll also be far away from the cruise ship crowds in George Town and on 7 Mile Beach. Rum Point, Grand Cayman snorkeling is perfect for a relaxed snorkel thanks to the shallow and sheltered water – ideal if you’re more of a beginner snorkeler or are snorkeling with kids.

The resort has 1-3 bedroom self-catering condos and a fresh water swimming pool, tennis court and games and laundry facilities.

One of the highlights of being in this area is you’re so close to Stingray City – Grand Cayman’s top attraction. Take a ride out on a glass bottomed boat to Stingray City sandbar and have the chance to snorkel with stingrays in the shallow water (Tip: try to go earlier or later in the day to avoid the large cruise ship groups). This will definitely make for one of the best snorkeling vacations in the Caribbean.

Best Snorkeling Resorts in The Cayman Islands

Last but not least in my guide to the top snorkeling resorts in the Caribbean, we come to another best Caribbean snorkeling island: Grand Cayman.

Located in the heart of the Caribbean sea, and an easy hour’s flight from Miami, the Cayman islands are made up of Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. For the best snorkeling on Grand Cayman, head to Rum Point and Stingray City.

The best time for snorkeling in Grand Cayman is between December – May.
